Project
Description
The Wolgot-Pangyo double-track railway construction project is based on the confirmation of the Seongnam-Yeoju Line and Suin Line in the east-west axis of the metropolitan area, the Sinansan Line and the Sosa-Wonsi Line in the north-south axis, and the establishment of an efficient wide-area railway network through the connection of these lines, as well as the Incheon, southwestern part of the metropolitan area, and Seongnam area. It is a project being promoted to improve accessibility to the high-speed rail in Gwangmyeong Station.
This project began in the late 1990s with the concept of the 2nd Airport Railroad connecting Incheon International Airport and Gwangmyeong Station on the high-speed rail. The government first mentioned the second airport railroad as a long-term project in the 1st Metropolitan Area Metropolitan Transportation Five-Year Plan (1999-2003)/(Ministry of Construction and Transportation et al., 1998), and then the Metropolitan Area Metropolitan Area Transportation Network Plan (2001-2020)/( The Ministry of Construction and Transportation, 2001) specified the line connecting Gwangmyeong Station and Bundang as a long-term project.
